Editing Services

Hello! I am the owner and lead writer here at What A Nerd. If you are an author/writer, or someone just looking to have their work looked over by an editor, take a look at the low-cost pricing for my services below; as well as my practices and promises to you. Thank you for considering me for as an editor for your work!

Qualifications: BA in English expected matriculation in 2022.

With all Tiers:  You will receive two copies of your work back. One will have all changes highlighted so you can see what editing was done, and the other will be a “clean” copy that is ready to be sent to your publisher or released as an e-book.

Throughout the editing process I will keep in contact with you about where I am at on your work. I guarantee that you will be informed when I have finished my first read through, as well as the second. If you want more contact than that, you are more than welcome to request it. Feel free to shoot a message my way and ask how things are, or anything else that may be on your mind about your work and it’s progress. I want to make sure you are as “in the know” as you want to be through the whole process.
I like to make sure you are getting the most for your money, so I read through your work twice. This ensures that I do not miss anything that may need corrected, your voice/style is still being showcased, and also ensures that I read through things with my own edits once to make sure they fit correctly. I do not charge extra for this additional read through, as it is my personal quality control measure. I want to make sure you and I are both happy with my work!

Below are the Tiers for pricing.

Tier 1- Proofreading:  At this tier I will read through your work and do basic proofreading. This includes checking spelling, grammar, punctuation, and deletion/addition of extra words. Anything I believe should be added/deleted will come as an editing comment on the document so you will see those suggested changes. If you need a rush put on your work, there will be an additional fee. (Depending on size of work, can take up to 2-3 weeks for completion)

Up to 20,000 words: $40.00 USD
21,000 to 40,000 words: $70.00 USD
41,000 to 60,000 words: $100.00 USD
61,000 to 80,000 words: $130.00 USD
81,000 to 100,000 words: $160.00 USD
Over 101,000 words: Pricing to be discussed privately based on official word count.

Tier 2- Line/Copy Editing:  At this tier I will do everything from Tier one, as well as make sure that your work flows well as it progresses, that there is clarity throughout the work, and fact checking. Due to the in-depth process of this, it takes about double the time of Tier one. If you need a rush put on your work, there will be an additional fee. (Depending on size of work, can take up to 4-6 weeks for completion)

Up to 20,000 words: $70.00 USD
21,000 to 40,000 words: $100.00 USD
41,000 to 60,000 words: $130.00 USD
61,000 to 80,000 words: $160.00 USD
81,000 to 100,000 words: $190.00 USD
Over 101,000 words: Pricing to be discussed privately based on official word count.

Additional Services:

Rushing Editing– Price TBD on Time frame/size of work:
If you need your work edited sooner than the projected time frames above, you can choose any tier and ask to have a rush done on it. This means that I will work on it more quickly to get it done by your deadline. Pricing for this is determined on both word count, how soon you need it to be done, and is to be discussed/agreed upon before editing begins. All rush orders are dependent on my current availability. I do my best to fit them in as needed, but do reserve the right to turn down a project should it not be a good fit at that time.

Back Cover Blurb– $10 USD:
Having an issue coming up with how to describe your book without giving away too much? If I am doing editing for you already, I would be happy to help you out with this and create one for you to use. Just include in a message to me that you would like to have me do this for you and I will include it in a separate document with your edited copies.

 

Payment: 
All payment is run through Paypal. Once I have accepted your job, I will invoice you through the email address that you provide me. A non-refundable deposit of 50% is requested before I begin editing your work, and the other half will be invoiced to you once I have completed your work.

In addition, if there are printed copies of your work, I request a signed copy of all books I have helped edit.

Payment of the initial deposit is acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
– You are accepting that I will be reading and editing your work as described above and before it is released to the public. If it has been released previously, I must be notified before I accept the job.
– I reserve the right to choose which jobs I will take on based on my current availability.
– The initial down payment is non-refundable.
– When your edits have been completed by me, I will send you an invoice for the remaining balance of your editing job and you will not receive the completed files until this balance has been paid.
– If you are unhappy with the work I have completed, you will contact and discuss your complaints with me first so we can try to come to a mutual agreement on what will be fixed by me, free of charge.
– All prices are based on the time/effort it takes for me to get through a certain size of work and are non-negotiable. If you want add-ons, or specific things done, those must be agreed upon before you pay your initial deposit.
– All communications, documents, and personal information exchanged throughout working with me will remain private, and confidential.
